A child's room should be a special space that they enjoy spending time in. Wallpaper is a great way to add some colour and a sense of playfulness to a child's bedroom or playroom. It can be used to make a statement on multiple walls or as a single feature wall. Or think outside the box and use it on the ceiling! Wallpaper technology has come a long way in recent years. Self-adhesive and removable wallpapers make installation a breeze and won't damage walls!
Nurseries
Wallpaper can be used to add a touch of whimsy to a nursery. A fun pattern can be used to add character to the space. Herringbone patterned wallpaper is a very popular choice for nurseries at the moment. Clouds, birds, arrows, trees and mountains are all fun patterns for little ones. Pastel colours can be fun, yet soothing. Or use a neutral coloured pattern for a space that is light and airy. Then add pops of colour with other soft furnishings such as curtains, pillows, a rug or artwork. A lovely way to add wallpaper to a nursery is to wallpaper above or below a picture rail or wainscoting. Or as a feature wall behind a cot.
Children's Rooms
A child's room doesn't have to have a theme that overpowers the space or be filled with disney characters. It should reflect and showcase their unique personality, while still working with your personal taste. Wallpaper can be used to add a sense of fun and personality to the space. Choose a wallpaper that will grow with the child. Ask for their input; use their favourite colour, incorporate their favourite animals, hobbies or interests. Pastel colours are a great option for children's rooms, as they add a pop of colour without being too bold. Monochrome patterns are also trending at the moment. Popular patterns include polka dots, herringbone, chevron, stripes, stags and geometric designs.
Teen's Rooms
Wallpaper in a teen's room should be in a style that suits the rest of your home, yet appeals to your child. Photo wallpaper is a great option. Choose an image that will inspire them, a famous view or landmark or their favourite sport or hobby. Geometric patterns are great or classics such as stars or stripes. It helps to think ahead, choose a wallpaper that would still work if the space was later converted for another use, perhaps a guest bedroom or home office.
Think outside the box...
Wallpaper doesn't just have to be used on walls. Use your imagination! Wallpaper can be used to accent a ceiling or above or below a picture rail or wainscoting. A fun way to incorporate pattern without so much commitment is to wallpaper inside a closet or behind shelving or a bookcase. Frame a panel of wallpaper and hang it on the wall. Or makeover a piece of furniture, like a table or cabinet.
