When the team at Classic Builders started the design process for their brand new show home, they wanted to build a home that utilised textures and materials that are not see everywhere. Their new Papamoa Showhome has been clad with Sugi timber and Italian marble finish plaster and these materials are continued indoors.
The cedar is grown in the cold climate and fertile soils of Japan. Yakiisugi is the tradition of charring Japanese cedar to create a naturally treated exterior cladding. The Japanese cedar is highly revered for its beauty and durability. The cedar is machined, charred, brushed then oiled, resulting in a quality finish that produces more depth and texture with a raised grain finish that grabs your attention. It has been carried through to inside the house as a feature wall in the media room and as an iconic headboard in the master bedroom.
